New Zealand, South Island Day 1 and 2

Day 1 - 2 (8/9 June 2016)

Singapore - Christchurch - Lake Tekapo

5 months after booking our air tickets, we were finally leaving for our couple trip. It's been a long time since we went on a trips sans kids.  The last few rounds we have been bringing them around Europe and Japan. And finally we found someone (the doting grandma) who is willing to look after them while we explore other countries around the world.

It's really not easy to plan and pack for the trip given my current busy schedule. In fact, I am still booking our hotels 2 weeks before the trip and started packing only 2 days before the trip.

My trusty luggages which travel around the world with me.
It's SQ this time round as I am too lazy for transfer flight. But seriously, after flying with so many airlines, Emirates wins SQ in all areas! I miss my Emirates flight to Orlando with my lovely colleagues. I can't believe that there is only 5 Chinese movies in SQ in flight entertainment. Compare that to Emirates,  ahhhhhhhh I miss my movies on board!

Woke up for breakfast and was greeted by the lovely sunrise. Which means I am reaching Christchurch soon.

Reach Christchurch and as usual, queue for data plan since we are using our phone GPS for this trip.
After reading review online, I booked our car rental from Apex Car rental. They have an office very near to the airport. Just walked out from the airport and a free shuttle bus will bring you to their office.

We rented a Rav 4 as Shadow wanted a 4wheels drive. The lady in the office was nice enough to teach us how to use the snow chains.  Praying hard that we will not be using it during this trip.

First stop after getting our car, it's supermarket visit to stock up on fruits and water. Took photos of these mangoes as I had never seen these before.

First meal for the trip - it's KFC. After a lousy KFC meal in Hokkaido, we are determined to try out other countries KFC. Definitely taste better than hokkaido but Malaysia KFC is still the best. :)

It's a 3hours drive from Christchurch to Lake Tekapo. Along the way, we saw many snow capped mountains and beautiful scenery.

Our motel for the next 2 nights. It has a jacuzzi tub which is so useful after our daily hike. It's right in front of Lake Tekapo and a 10mins walk to the church of the good Shepherd.

After checking in, we took a short walk around the lake. After crossing the bridge, we reached the church of the good Shepherd. A beautiful church standing by the side of the lake.

There were many photographers waiting to get a great shot after the sunset. Lake tekapo is well known for star gazing at night. However being the first night after a long flight n drive, we decided to have an early dinner and rest.

Lake Tekapo is definitely worth a visit. Overlooking the lake, listening to the wave. What a wonderful start of the holiday.

The bridge which we crossed.

Eating options in Lake Tekapo was limited due to the off peak season. There were only a few restaurants that were open. We had our dinner at Mackenzie's.

Tried out the restaurant famous stone grill dining.

Breaded scallops but nothing amazing about it.

That pretty sum out our first night in South Island. :)
Hope I can keep up with the travelogue.
